The House Builder

Aneka-jāti-saṅsāraṃ

Sandhāvissaṃ anibbisaṃ,

Gahakāraṃ gavesanto

Dukkhā jāti punappunaṃ,

Through the round of many births

I wandered without reward, without rest,

Seeking the house builder.

Painful is birth again & again.

Gahakāraka diṭṭhosi

Puna-gehaṃ na kāhasi.

House builder, you are seen!

You will not build a house again.

Sabbā te phāsukā bhaggā

Gahakūṭaṃ visaṅkhataṃ

Visaṅkhāra-gataṃ cittaṃ

Taṇhānaṃ khayam-ajjhagā

All your rafters broken,

The ridge pole destroyed,

Gone to the Unformed, the mind

Has attained the end of craving.
